International Selections 2023 – Sprint, Marathon & Wildwater!

It was with delight that we learned of three very significant international selections for Linlithgow paddlers, Lewis Fletcher (LKR and Scottish Performance Squad member), Phil Dean (current LKR member), and Finn Cadell (now racing for Nottingham KC).

The international sprint selection process is split into two parts of the season with the first part focusing on development at the early World Cups with the opportunity to prepare for the delivery part of the season at the European Games/Championships and World Championships, the latter of which will include Olympic and Paralympic boat quota selection.

In addition to winning the K2 500m, Lewis Fletcher (Scottish Performance Squad), Phil Miles (Royal Leamington Spa) along with Trevor Thomson (Ealing) and Noah Dembele (Leaside) have all been selected to the World Cup pool for their run in the men’s K4 500m, as the crew took the win to earn their spot.

Following the assessment event in Elmbridge in April, former LKR paddler and volunteer coach Finn Cadell, was selected by the British Canoeing Marathon Racing Committee for the 2023 World Cup Team to race in Ruse in Bulgaria on June 3-4, 2023.

A discipline that perhaps many of us know relatively less about at LKR, is Wildwater Racing. We were delighted to learn that after the British Wildwater Selection event at Grandtully in March, LKR paddler Phil Dean, has been selected for the Senior European Championships, May 16-20, Skopje, Macedonia in Mens K1. To give a flavour for this exhilarating sport, here are a couple of photos of Phil in action:

LKR wishes Lewis, Phil and Finn and all other LKR aspiring GB paddlers great success in the 2023 season. We will keep you updated on their progress and results!
