The Club
We are a friendly flatwater kayak racing club where kayaking is safe and fun. The club was founded in 2000 and we are essentially a flat water racing club with our activities/training/sessions being geared towards racing, enabling members to compete in local, Scottish and National sprint and marathon events. We also try to build fun nights into the structure of the club and organise club events and weekend trips.
The club welcomes new adult and junior members to this exciting and rewarding sport. As long as you have the enthusiasm to learning boat handling and fitness skills, train to develop your performance and willing to meet new friends then, this club is for you.
Where to find us
We have two main bases:
- Our main workshop at Park Farm, Linlithgow, EH49 6QY.
- This is where the majority of our boats for adult paddlers are stored, and the location for most of our training sessions.
- This is a 40 minute drive from Glasgow, and a 30 minute drive from Edinburgh. Members also travel by train and bus to access us – it’s a 20 min walk along the canal from Linlithgow centre from the train station, or a 10 min walk down the hill from the bus stop.
- Our annual Linlithgow Marathon, Head2Head Sprint Events, Come and Try sessions, and most other core club activities, are based at Park Farm.
- Our locker at the Linlithgow Canal Centre, EH48 6AJ.
- This is where the boats for our younger paddlers are stored, and where Junior kayaker sessions are run from. It is very conveniently located in central Linlithgow.
- Our Winter Time Trials start and finish in the canal basin by the locker.
- In addition to the above we also paddle on occasion on Linlithgow Loch, also the venue for our Summer Loch Race Series.
Competitions
Sprint kayaking is an Olympic sport with races over 200m for women and men, 500m for women and 1000m for men. Marathon racing takes place in divisions, decided by ability. The distances raced vary by age and performance. We concentrate on the sport of flat water kayak racing with our activities and training geared towards racing.
We have a successful junior section with children age 8-12 who compete in lightning kayak class. We also have a rapidly growing and evolving group of adult paddlers. All club members are encouraged and supported to compete/participate in local, Scottish and British level events throughout the year. Several of our club members also train with the Scottish Performance Squad – enjoying, sharing, participating and experiencing many notable successes.
