It’s all happening here at LKR! The Committee has been working hard (virtually) throughout lockdown to ensure that, as we emerge and return to the new normality, there truly is something available for everyone. Our junior competition paddlers have continued to train throughout, led by our new performance coach Ben Gallacher, virtually initially and now coach-led on and off-water training. The under 12 Lightning group are also now back up and running with on water sessions led by Derek, supported by some of LKRs experienced senior GB level performance paddlers. The adult improvers group which started in 2019, has flourished, with a growing number of very enthusiastic members becoming fitter and faster by the day. Many have become so hooked that they have bought their own boats and paddles and are paddling 3-4 times per week! And our experienced group of adult competition level paddlers have kept their own paddling fitness a priority during lockdown, training in make-shift set ups at home, and are now very happy to be back on the water for their regular Thursday evening racing sessions. Combined, all of LKR’s paddlers can’t wait for racing to restart later in 2020, so that they can actually test out the value of all of their training to date.
However, perhaps the most exciting news, is that we also now have a collaboration with Element Activities to provide lessons for beginners who would like to try paddlesport. These are opportunities for adults, children or whole families to learn or experience kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding. These beginner/improver sessions give you access to use more stable/less tippy kayaks, Canadian canoes and paddleboards. With an easy online booking process, there really is something for everyone. So, if you’ve always wanted to give it a try, but didn’t know how……it’s now easy! Contact us or book your session directly today and come and join in the fun!
